This is Sparta!

Finally went to see 300, just so I could see what all the fuss was about. It was pretty good. The visuals were amazing, of course, and the requisite crowdpleasing moments worked pretty well. Some parts were silly (although hundreds of men fighting in virtually their underwear didn't look as stupid as I thought it would) and Gerard Butler's Scottish brogue was a little distracting, but overall it's one of the better graphic novel adaptations I've seen.

So how does it fit into Imaginary Cinema, you ask, since it's (loosely) based on historical fact? Well, there sure were a ton of freaky looking mutants in it. And Xerxes was an unusual villain. I don't think the film is gonna change cinema as we know it, like some people claim. But it sure is nice to look at. It'll be interesting to see what director Zack Snyder does with his next project, an adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen.
